- this is a method of identifying, configuring and forming words
using patterns within words. We will also use a word wall to identify
commonly misspelled high frequency words.
- is an opportunity for students to read what they would like
to read. I will conference with the students and give them an opportunity
to share their book, magazine, Internet article, comic book, etc. with me and
the rest of the class. This is also the portion of the day when I will
read aloud to the class. This will include many different genres
of literature.
- is the time of the day where students will "read with a purpose". We
will read as a whole class, in partners, small groups, as teachers, chorally,
etc. These are just some of the different activities that we will
participate in during guided reading. This is where many of the "core"
subjects will also be addressed. Things such as science, social studies,
and the new reading series. There is a lot of integration of subjects in
the guided reading portion of 4 blocks.
- this
is the section of 4 blocks where not only writing (obviously) takes place, but
many of the grammar lessons that are necessary in the language arts block.
Students will have opportunities to share their writing during conference time with the teacher
as well as with the whole class.
